How to Start a New Girl Scout Troop
How exciting—you’re starting a new Girl Scout Troop! We’re here to make the process easy for you.
Step 1: Register
Visit our registration site to begin the volunteering process.
On the next page, select “I want to lead her troop.”
Become a Member of Girl Scouts of the USA. National membership dues are $25, and financial assistance is available.
Follow-up emails will guide you through completing your required background check and orientation.
Step 2: Complete online Training
View the the Safety Basics, Troop/Group Basics and Financial Basics and take the knowledge check that follows the video
Step 3: Start Looking for Other Adults to Help
A troop needs at least two adults and a minimum of 5 girls to get started. Troops can have more than two leaders, and they typically have additional volunteers to help other fields such as:
Treasurer
Cookie parent
Fall product parent
First Aid trained
Camp trained
Field trip help
Paperwork help, etc....
Parents of other girls in your troop are prime candidates to help out.
Step 4: Pick a Day, Time, and Location for Troop Meetings
It’s a great idea to start thinking about how your troop will get together right away. You can start contacting potential venues now as you complete your registration and on-boarding to find a good meeting space. Keep in mind:
Most troops meet twice per month, but you can choose a schedule that works best for you.
Your meeting space needs to be a safe, clean, and secure environment that allows all girls to participate. Good options include:
Schools
Libraries
Places of worship
Community centers and buildings
Local businesses
Troop leaders and or registered parent homes
Step 5: Open up a troop bank account
Receive Appointment letter by mail
Choose a bank with zero fees (wow girl scout friendly bank in katy = Prosperity)
Bank account has to have 2 signers (leader + troop treasurer)
Complete form F-36 and submit per instructions to wowfinancial@gmail.com
Keep every day troop finance using form F-31
F-31 need to be turned in to wowfinancial at year end with a troop inventory list held
