Before your troop decides to raise funds for a specific cause or organization, please ensure you are following the Girl Scouts Policies and Procedures. Any type of fundraising or money earning activity needs to be approved by Community or Council F-32A Request to Undertake Money Earning Activity. According to GSSJC, certain activities will not be approved.
Examples of Permitted Money Earning Activities
Group-A Money Earning Activities (Require CLT approval* only)
If the money earning activity is on the Group A list below, submit the Request to Undertake a Money Earning Activity form (F-32) to the Community Leadership Team (CLT) at least six (6) weeks in advance of the activity.
Babysitting Badge workshop
Car wash Carousel
Garage sale
Gift-wrapping booth
Girl-Made-Goods sale (not involving food)
Household/community service
Pet show
Pet walking
Product proof-of-purchase redemption program for nonprofits (e.g., saving labels, bottle tops, to redeem for cash)
Recycling
Talent Show/Concert Troop/Group dramatic production
Troop Host Flower or plant sale (Spirit mums, mistletoe)
Group-B Money Earning Activities (Require Council approval)
If the money earning activity is on the Group B list below, submit Request Permission to Undertake a Money Earning Activity form (F-32) to the Community Engagement and Membership Experience (CEME) Department for approval at least six (6) weeks in advance of the activity and before any final plans are made. This includes any money earning activity involving the sale of food or commercially produced items:
Any activity not in Group A.
Sale of commercially produced items.
Money earning activities involving the handling of food. (Activities that involve food preparation and food serving, such as bake sales, barbeques, dinners, etc., are not legal in many parts of the Council. Refer to Chapter 5, Managing Group Finances in Volunteer Essentials for more information).
Examples of Money earning Activities That Will NOT Be Approved
Crowdfunding, such as a GoFundMe page
Games of chance, such as raffles, lottery, scratch-offs, Casino Nights, sports pools, etc.
Any activity that could endorse a particular product, business or political affiliation (Refer to Chapter 5 in Volunteer Essentials)
Product demonstrations, such as Tupperware, Mary Kay, jewelry parties, etc.
Sales designed to generate profits for a specific business/company, such as Papa John’s, Double Dave’s, Chick-fil-A, etc., including Spirit Nights and sale of coupon books
Participation in any fundraiser that is not approved by the GSSJC Board of Directors and promoted by GSSJC.
Any activity that uses unauthorized trademarked or copyrighted material, such as Disney characters, song lyrics, etc.
Money earning activities for individual girls unless designated for GSUSA Destinations or Bronze/Silver/Gold Award projects.
